Mechanical Airplanes (Access) (Individual Event) (Softball Field) (No restriction on entries, except for Engineering students are prohibited from participating.)
(a) Airplanes must be constructed in an original fashion and may not be constructions from commercially available kits.
(b) All airplanes must be mechanically propelled (rubber bands, springs, etc.) No chemical reactions or compressed gas allowed.
(c) All means of propulsion must travel with the plane.
(d) Planes may take-off from hand-held or ground position.
(e) Competition will take place outside over level terrain.
(f) Airplanes will be judged by total time aloft. Airplanes can be launched as many times as possible within the period.
(g) Contestant is responsible for cleaning up all materials at or right after the competition.
(h) Previous or current “Principles of Engineering” students are prevented from entering this event.
(i) Make sure your name is clearly marked on your airplane.
MINIMUM STANDARDS: The airplane must be under controlled flight for a minimum of 4.0 seconds. You can earn 80% for flying from 3.0-4.0 seconds.
