Kinetics (Period 5) (Pair Event) (Meet at Flagpole in front of school.) (Entry Restricted to first four groups per class.)
(a) All vehicles must be human-powered
(b) Two people must enter the event. At least one must be a passenger on the vehicle at all times.
(c) One person (the passenger) cannot touch the ground while advancing the vehicle.
(d) The two people must switch positions at a check point (approximately half-way through the race).
(e) The vehicles should be all-terrain. The course is over a variety of terrain and begins and ends at the driveway near the flagpole.
(f) The vehicle must be designed and built by the entrants. Bicycle parts may be used but the major part of the vehicle must be homemade. (Decision of the judges is final!)
(g) There are no restrictions on the size of the wheels
(h) A vehicle must be provided. No piggyback or monster truck wheel rides!
(i) Vehicles that are primarily a wheelbarrow, bicycle, toboggan, or a shopping cart cannot be used. In addition, the only part of a wheelbarrow that may be used is the wheel. If you have any doubt, show your plan to your teacher before you compete.
(i) Deliberately obstructing or interfering with other groups will result in your disqualification.
(j) The device may not be advanced when the rider is touching the ground.
(k) Any part that falls off your vehicle in route needs to be carried with you
(l) Failure to clean up all parts and remove your vehicle by the end of the day will result in disqualification. You must take the vehicle and all its parts home with you. We cannot accommodate the trash in the school dumpster.
(m) Make sure that your name clearly and permanently appears on your car.
(n) Once you finish the race, move your vehicle out of the way. People are finishing behind you. Do not ask the judge how you finished as he is busy recording information. Failure to do these things could result in disqualification upon the discretion of the judge.
MINIMUM STANDARDS: Finish the race and properly clean up afterwards.
